Cooper Kupp is set to take on a surprising new role for the Los Angeles Rams in their season opener against the Detroit Lions.

On the Cooper Kupp YouTube channel , where he posts weekly podcasts with his wife Anna, Kupp previewed the upcoming NFL season. When talking about the upcoming Lons vs Rams game on NBC in Week 1, Kupp said that Sean McVay has an unusual trick up his sleeve to start the regular season.

As the game approaches, Kupp has revealed that he will be handling the opening kickoff, a first for him in the NFL.

“We are six days away from kickoff and I will be doing the opening kickoff. Dropping that right here now. I’m literally out there kicking the ball to start things off. Pretty cool, pretty cool.”

Kupp, known for his versatility on the field, has played various positions throughout his career. However, this will mark his debut as a kickoff specialist.

While he has experience in other roles, including passing attempts and returns, kicking off is uncharted territory for the All-Pro wide receiver.

His last experience as a kicker dates back to high school, where he had a successful stint at Davis High School in Yakima, Washington. During his senior year, he averaged over 33 yards per punt and demonstrated solid performance on special teams.

The Rams have made some unconventional choices this season, including naming starting running back Kyren Williams as the team's punt returner.

Kupp's new role adds another layer of intrigue to the Rams' strategy, especially with the NFL's recent kickoff rule changes that may lead to more returns.

Fans should be ready for an exciting matchup on Sunday Night Football. With Kupp kicking off, it’s a moment not to be missed as the Rams face the Lions in what promises to be an engaging start to the season.
