Simone Biles Shares Major Announcement About Her Gymnastics Future

Simone Biles is bidding farewell to the move that gained her fame -- and earned her a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

The gold medalist made a huge comeback in Paris, returning to the Summer Games at age 27 after she was forced to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Biles found redemption in Paris by winning three gold medals and one silver medal.

One of those gold medals came on the vault thanks to a now-iconic move. Biles performed the Yurchenko double pike, a move no woman had ever completed before she unveiled it at the U.S. Classic in 2021. The vault has a difficulty score of 6.6, the highest value in the history of the women's vault.

Biles nailed the Yurchenko double pike in the vault final at the Paris Olympics, winning a gold medal.

But Biles now appears ready to move on from the difficult maneuver. The gymnast took to her Instagram stories on September 2 to share what appeared to be an announcement on the future of the iconic move.

"R.I.P. yurchenko double pike," Biles wrote in the caption above a picture of herself sitting on a vault.

Even if she's putting the Yurchenko double pike to rest for good, Biles could still have the chance to win more gold medals with other moves. The gymnast left the door open to compete at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
