With just seven games remaining in the WNBA regular season, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has strengthened her grip on the Rookie of the Year title. What was once a close race between the 22-year-old and fellow first-year star Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky now appears to have tipped in Clark's favor significantly.

In seven games played since returning from the month-long Olympic break, Clark has produced mind-boggling averages of 24.0 points on 47.6 percent shooting, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.2 steals while also knocking down 4.0 triples per game on a 40.8-percent clip.

More importantly, Clark has led the Fever to six wins in their last seven games. They are now sitting on a 17-16 record (the first time Indiana has gone beyond .500 this season) and are sixth in the WNBA.

Clark's scorching streak has earned tons of praise from fans and pundits alike. So much so that there is now talk of the former Iowa superstar entering the MVP conversation.

One man who believes that Clark is indeed a legitimate threat to the MVP title is former Los Angeles Lakers star Mychal Thompson. The two-time NBA champ took to Twitter (formerly X) on Monday to make a bold statement about Caitlin's MVP credentials.

"Lemmy see if I got this strait," he said. "…Best Gard in the WNBA…Leeds leeg in points scored/assisted…Has taken the WORST team in the leeg to solid PLAYOFF contender…Leeds leeg in assists…and then there’s this…Game attendance avrage WITH Caitlin?15,000…NO Caitlin? 8,000.Thats MVP 2 ME."

Thompson, the father of five-time NBA All-Star Klay Thompson, has some valid arguments here. Not only did he point out Clark's elite numbers, but the former NBA No. 1 overall pick also presented some compelling figures in terms of Caitlin's impact on fan attendance during games.

While this might not be part of the categories that determine the season MVP, this is an aspect that cannot be ignored.

For what it's worth, Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson is still the frontrunner to bag her third MVP title this coming season. It's unlikely that Clark will be able to dethrone Wilson this year, but there's little doubt that it's only going to be a matter of time before she bags her first WNBA MVP trophy.
