Shannon Sharpe Drops Harsh Truth After Paul George's Father Blasts Clippers

The father of Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George didn't hold back on his criticisms of the Los Angeles Clippers after his son was not re-signed by the squad this offseason.

Paul George Sr. said he was hurt by how the Clippers handled his son's contract extension, adding that they wanted to stay in their home city of Los Angeles.

"I felt like they stabbed us in the back because I thought Paul did a lot for the team," said George Sr. on "Podcast P with Paul George."

With the negotiations going south, George, an nine-time All-Star, decided to become a free agent and signed with the Sixers, continuing his search for his first NBA ring.

George Sr.'s comment didn't sit well with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe. The three-time Super Bowl champion pointed out that the Clippers sacrificed a lot to acquire the younger George in 2019 from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"It’s tough when you think about what they gave up to get him,” said Sharpe on the "Nightcap" podcast. “They gave up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They gave up those draft picks, they gave up swap picks. I mean, they gave up a lot to get him.

“You look at all the draft picks they surrendered to get PG, and they only went to the conference finals.”

To recall, aside from Gilgeous-Alexander, the Clippers traded away Danilo Gallinari, unprotected first-round draft picks in 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026 and first-round pick swaps in 2023 and 2026 in exchange for George.

While the All-Star duo of PG and Kawhi Leonard looked promising for the Clippers, they only went to a single conference finals as they were hampered by a string of injuries.

George only played 263 games in five seasons with the Clippers, averaging 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
