All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams has officially ended his holdout and is finalizing a new contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to a statement from his agency, Elite Loyalty Sports. The news comes just days before the 49ers are set to kick off their season, bringing relief to fans and the team alike.

Williams, 36, has been a cornerstone of the 49ers' offensive line, starting 58 games over the past four seasons. Originally drafted by Washington as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Williams has consistently proven himself as one of the league's elite tackles.

Last season, Williams earned the second-best offensive rating among tackles, according to Pro Football Focus , trailing only Penei Sewell of the Detroit Lions. This rating isn't a one-off; Williams was the top-rated tackle in 2022, 2021, and 2020, demonstrating his sustained excellence and importance to the 49ers' offensive strategy.

Back in 2021, the 49ers recognized Williams' value by signing him to a six-year, $138 million contract extension, which included a $30.1 million signing bonus and more than $55 million in guaranteed money.

The new contract Williams is finalizing will likely solidify his position as one of the highest-paid tackles in the league, ensuring that the 49ers' offensive line remains one of the most formidable in the NFL.

However, Williams' holdout wasn’t without consequence. The veteran tackle will be fined over $5.3 million for missing training camp and the team's three preseason games. Despite this, the resolution of his contract dispute comes at a crucial time, as the 49ers prepare for their season opener.

The 49ers are set to host the New York Jets at 8:15 p.m. EDT on Monday in Santa Clara, Calif. With Williams back in the fold, the 49ers are poised to make a strong start to their season, hoping that his presence will help them secure an early victory.
