Kalen DeBoer Makes History That Not Even Nick Saban Was Able To Pull Off In Week 1 Win

Alabama's shutout in their season opener brought out a lot of positives about the team, both offensively and defensively. There is much to be excited about for Alabama football this season.

Even though the program faced numerous questions and criticisms, they attempted to quiet the media by routing Western Kentucky 63-0. They showed out, and proved they are a much better team than many anticipated.

For Kalen DeBoer, this was a new challenge. Taking over a historic program after a legendary coach had departed from his role, DeBoer had a lot on his shoulders. He was questioned if he was the right replacement for Nick Saban, and if he could provide similar success.

DeBoer, however, helped coach a dominant game and gave fans a glimpse of what is to come for the new era of Alabama football.

While many positives came out of Saturday's game, DeBoer joined a historic placement after his first coached game with the Tide.

Per Chase Goodbread of Tuscaloosa News , DeBoer is the first Alabama coach since Wallace Wade in 1923 to get a shutout in their first game as head coach for the program, a record that has lived for 101 years.

Wade's team defeated Union University by shutting them out 12-0. Wade would go on to win 3 national championships after his hire in 1923, providing Alabama with their first-ever championships (1925, 1926, and 1930).

This is a historic feat that not even Paul "Bear" Bryant or Nick Saban achieved. Bryant and Saban are two of the greatest coaches in college football. With that being said, it doesn't mean that DeBoer is set to join those ranks, but it's certainly a promising start.
