Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and X owner Elon Musk had a public spat early in 2024 over differing approaches to their respective businesses, particularly on diversity and equality.

Since then, the two outspoken business tycoons have often engaged each other in online debates, highlighting their clash of personalities and philosophies.

On Sept. 2, Cuban asked Musk about a numerical discrepancy in his poll about presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

"How come there were 804K votes for the poll, but only 656K engagements in the analytics?" posted Cuban , who has 8.8 million followers on X.

He then had a back-and-forth with former Mavericks director of quantitative research and development, Haralabos Voulgaris, about misinformation, truth, tyranny and free speech.

Cuban admitted that he enjoys arguing with Voulgaris, who worked for the Mavericks until 2021. He then stressed that Musk's X isn't a "bastion of free speech" as everyone views it to be.

"It’s only as free as Elon wants it to be," Cuban said. "He can intimidate. He can alter the algorithm. He can suspend anyone he wants at any time. He is the ultimate arbiter of everything on here.

"The biggest power play is him making everyone think their speech is free speech. Until he decides it isn’t, and there is nothing any of us can do about it."

The 66-year-old Cuban added that it's fun engaging Musk, who also owns SpaceX and Tesla.

The 53-year-old Musk is the world's richest man with a net worth of $243.7 billion. For perspective, with that money, he can buy the Mavericks 54 times.

Despite their differences, Cuban and Musk sure know how to push the boundaries as they continue to shape the future of their respective industries.

Cuban will bat for another deep run for the Mavericks in the upcoming NBA season, with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and new acquisition Klay Thompson leading the way.
