No News = Bad News: Jets' Hasson Reddick Ruled Out of Monday Night Opener?

Just two days before the NFL kicks off there is now only one player still holding out from his team in a contract dispute. And, according to New York Jets' head coach Robert Saleh, the situation with Haason Reddick isn't likely to change anytime soon.

When it comes to the Jets' (potentially) star pass-rusher and the team's Super Bowl hopes, "no news" continues to become big and bigger news.

When asked about Reddick's holdout before Tuesday's practice at Florham Park, Saleh responded "Nothing new."

Added ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday's Pat McAfee Show, "Right now it would be a real surprise if a deal gets done in time for Haason to play Monday night."

The Jets open the season against the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football .

Even more alarming, Saleh admitted that he hasn't personally spoken to Reddick since before training camp started in mid-July.

The Jets traded for Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in March, hoping to add his Pro Bowl pass-rush skills to a Top 5 defense. But Reddick has yet to report to Jets' headquarters, instead holding out for a new contract.

Last month his agent formally requested a trade, but the Jets responded with a statement indicated that they will not deal him to another team.

Reddick turns 30 on Sept. 22. He made the Pro Bowl last season in Philly with his fourth consecutive season of 10+ sacks.

With Reddick all but out of the game-planning for Monday night, the Jets will likely rely on a pair of recent high draft picks to provide pressure on 49ers' quarterback Brock Purdy - 2022 first-rounder Jermaine Johnson II and 2023 first-rounder Will McDonald IV.

While Reddick remains in limbo, the Jets' Week 1 foe recently got good news with holdouts ended by star receiver Brandon Aiyuk and All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams. Both are expected to be in uniform Monday night.
