As the New York Giants gear up for the NFL season, one player remains a constant in their evolving offense— Darius Slayton .

Highlighted by David Kenyon of Bleacher Report in his "All-Underrated Team" as one of the most overlooked players in the league, Slayton continues to be an essential component in New York’s passing attack despite new additions to the roster.

Entering his sixth season with the Giants, Slayton has been a consistent performer, recording four seasons with 46-plus receptions and over 700 yards. His ability to produce, even amid fluctuating team fortunes, underscores why he’s earned the trust of quarterback Daniel Jones and remains a dependable target.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll emphasized Slayton’s importance, stating, "He's been Mr. Steady for us. One of the steady guys offensively we've had here the last couple of years."

Slayton's role, however, faces challenges this season. With the addition of rookie sensation Malik Nabers from LSU, who is expected to become a primary weapon, and the presence of young talents like Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt , Slayton’s position as a starter is no longer guaranteed. The Giants’ offense is likely to prioritize getting their newer, faster options on the field.

Yet, Slayton’s experience and leadership have earned him a place as a crucial mentor to the young receiving corps. Daboll acknowledged this dynamic, noting, "He's got a lot of experience playing, been productive, knows our system, and the younger guys have a lot of confidence in Slay."

Even if his role as a primary receiver diminishes, his value as a leader and mentor could prove indispensable for New York's younger receivers.

As Slayton enters a contract year, his future in New York might be uncertain, but his impact on the field and within the team is not. As the Giants prepare for their season opener , all eyes will be on how the receiving corps, led by Slayton's steady presence, can help the team reach new heights.
