Shohei Ohtani is closing in on a significant milestone with the Los Angeles Dodgers. After hitting his 80th extra-base hit of the season on Saturday, he is now just 14 hits away from breaking the franchise record of 94, set by Babe Herman in 1930.

Ohtani's achievement ties his personal best for extra-base hits, a mark he previously reached in 2021. Last season, he finished with 78 extra-base hits. The current record for the Dodgers is held by teammate Freddie Freeman, who set the LA record at 90 last year.

With an 82-54 record heading into Sunday’s game, Ohtani has 26 games left this season and is now within 14 extra base hits away from the Dodgers' franchise record of 94 extra base hits in a season, as noted by Eric Stephen of TrueBlue LA. Even if he falls short, he is likely to set a new personal best.

In addition to chasing this record, Ohtani is on track to become the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season. He has already become the sixth player to achieve 40 of each in a season and did so faster than anyone before him. As of now, he has 44 home runs and 43 stolen bases.

Ohtani is also a strong contender for his third MVP award. His season stats include a .293 batting average, 155 hits, 107 runs, 44 home runs, and 98 RBIs.

He ranks among the top 10 in several categories, including hits, runs, and RBIs, and leads the National League in home runs and slugging percentage.

As the season winds down, Ohtani's pursuit of these records adds excitement for Dodgers fans and baseball enthusiasts alike.
