'Our Strongest!': Commanders' Dan Quinn Praises New Acquisition

The Washington Commanders added veteran running back Austin Ekeler during the offseason to pair with Brian Robinson Jr. in the backfield.

The addition was both to be a change-of-pace back and a receiver out of the backfield for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. That is right up Ekeler’s alley, and the reason he left the Los Angeles Chargers. He knows what his strengths are, and he will be allowed to do those things in Washington.

Speaking of strength, at his daily meeting with the media, coach Dan Quinn revealed his thoughts on the diminutive Ekeler and made a shocking revelation on Tuesday.

“Austin, I knew was a really good pass catcher. I probably didn't know how strong he is,” Quinn said. “He is, you know, you would think he's a small back. But he is strong and pound-for-pound probably our strongest player, so there's not a spot that you couldn't put him in.”

At 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, Ekeler is shifty and speedy with the ball in his hands and can do a lot of damage in the open field. With the type of strength Quinn is talking about, expect to see Ekeler break tackles this season when he gets his touches.

We will see how much the Commanders use Ekeler within the offense when they travel to Tampa this Sunday to take on the Buccaneers.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. ET.
