According to KNBR radio analyst Tim Ryan , Ricky Pearsall is back in the gym just days after being shot in San Francisco. The rookie wide receiver for the 49ers was seen working out on Monday, recovering from an incident that occurred during an attempted robbery on Saturday.

“I talked to him yesterday, he was actually in the weight room,” Ryan said. “Thank God it’s not worse than it was […] I already know this, his street cred has gone up tremendously around here.”

Pearsall, who was drafted in June, is currently on the reserve/non-football injury list, which means he will miss the first four games of the season. He sustained injuries when a 17-year-old attempted to steal his Rolex watch, resulting in a struggle that left Pearsall shot in the chest.

After spending a night in the hospital, he was released on Sunday, and his family has expressed relief that his injuries were not more severe. Pearsall's mother shared that he is in good spirits and grateful for his recovery.

“First and far (sic) most I want to thank God for protecting my baby boy,” she wrote on Facebook on Sunday. “He is extremely lucky, God shielded him. He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to God it missed his vital organs.”

The 49ers organization has thanked the local police and medical staff for their quick response. Pearsall is expected to be eligible to return for the team's fifth game against the Cardinals on October 6.

“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the team said in a statement Sunday.
