Texas had a fantastic start to the 2024 college football season.

The Longhorns recorded a 52-0 win over Colorado State in Week 1 and much of the success on offense was in large part due to quarterback Quinn Ewers. Texas' starting signal-caller showcased several NFL-level throws , including a no-look touchdown pass , and appeared poised and confident in the pocket.

Ewers concluded Week 1 with 260 passing yards and three touchdowns in roughly 2.5 quarters of play. Backup Arch Manning entered the game for Texas midway through the third quarter.

Many preseason rankings listed Ewers as a Heisman Trophy contender, therefore his Week 1 success wasn't a surprise to many. However, many national media networks typically listed Ewers behind Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in just about every preseason ranking.

Following Week 1, there was quite a few surprises in 247Sports Clint Brewster's Top 10 quarterback ranking. Ewers holds the top spot, while Beck did not appear on the list at all. Oregon's Dillon Gabriel was also omitted from the ranking, but his omission is likely due to a lackluster 10-point win over Idaho to open the season.

Miami's Cam Ward, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, Arizona's Noah Fifita and Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart rounded out the top five.

Aside from Beck and Gabriel not included in the ranking, it may surprise some to see true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola make the cut. If his Week 1 performance is any indication, Raiola will have an impressive career at Nebraska. The Huskers put together a 40-7 win over UTEP last week where Raiola threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns.

Regardless, if Ewers can remain healthy and show consistency, he will likely remain atop this list for the foreseeable future.
