As the Buffalo Bills prepare to kick off their season against the Arizona Cardinals, a war of words has emerged, sparked by former Bills running back LeSean McCoy . The six-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion recently took to social media to downplay the accomplishments of Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, labeling his NFL career as “mid.”

McCoy’s comments came after Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, reflected on his football journey during a recent press conference. Murray highlighted his undefeated high school record in Texas, his Heisman Trophy win, and his achievements in both the NFL and MLB drafts.

"To go 43-0 in high school in Texas ... win the Heisman ... get drafted No. 1 overall to the NFL, get drafted No. 9 overall to MLB. Again, no one’s ever done it,” Murray stated, defending his résumé.

But McCoy was quick to challenge Murray's self-praise. In response to a MaxPreps post sharing Murray's remarks, McCoy commented , "lol and what has that gotten u ??? Mid NFL career??? What we talking bout."

Murray, who threw for 1,799 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions in eight games last season, heads into the 2024 campaign with a point to prove. Facing the Bills' defense on Sunday could be the first test in silencing his critics.

For McCoy, who spent four seasons in Buffalo (2015-2018) before ending his career with two Super Bowl rings, his social media jabs serve as bulletin board material that Murray may use to fuel his performance. Meanwhile, Bills fans are left wondering if McCoy's comments will motivate Murray or if Buffalo’s defense will capitalize on any gaps in his game.

As the Bills and Cardinals meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET , the matchup will not only be a test of skills on the field but a contest of pride, with both sides looking to set the tone for their seasons.
