Giants Reveal Top 10 Players in Team History

The New York Giants aren’t short on ways to celebrate their 100th anniversary season.

On Friday, the team will have a Fan Fest at MetLife Stadium, followed the next day by a charitable 5k run. For Sunday’s Week 1 festivities, the Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings in a (temporarily) rebranded home field, and they’ll do so in their “Century Red” uniforms.

New York continued to build excitement for the season by completing its top 100 players in Giants history, compiled by an esteemed panel and released in 10-player increments.

On Tuesday, the team released its top 10 , as follows below.

    10. Andy Robustelli, Defensive End

    9. Sam Huff, Linebacker

    8. Eli Manning, Quarterback

    7. Harry Carson, Linebacker

    6. Emlen Tunnell, Safety

    5. Michael Strahan, Defensive End

    4. Frank Gifford, Running Back

    3. Mel Hein, Center/Linebacker

    2. Roosevelt Brown, Offensive Tackle

    1. Lawrence Taylor, Outside Linebacker

Of course, Lawrence Taylor holding the top spot was never much of a debate – he’s the greatest defensive player of all time for a reason.

One aspect that may be surprising is how many pre-Super Bowl players made the cut. For all of their accolades and accomplishments, names like Andy Robustelli and Mel Hein may resonate with a fan base less than brighter stars with lesser resumes.

That isn’t an indictment of the list – the panel made a point to include important figures of Giants history, and they did just that.

Another notable placement is that of quarterback Eli Manning. As the best passer in franchise history, playing the sport’s most important position, it wouldn’t have surprised anyone to see him higher.

Manning is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
