Paul Finebaum Names College Football Coach Who Appears 'Overwhelmed'

It wasn't the start to the 2024 season that Florida Gator fans had hoped for. The Gators were defeated 41-17 at home by their in-state rival, the Miami Hurricanes.

The Florida Gators have experienced three consecutive losing seasons for the first time in over 70 years. Two of those seasons were under the leadership of Billy Napier. According to ESPN's Paul Finebaum , he believes that the Florida job may be too big for Napier and that he appears overwhelmed.

"I think Florida is just too big for him," Finebaum said. "He was excellent at Louisiana. He was a master at that program. But, everything that goes into the University of Florida, which is one of the biggest and richest brands in college football, he looks overwhelmed every time I see this guy."

Napier arrived in Florida after guiding the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to an impressive 40-12 record over four seasons. He achieved 10 or more wins in three consecutive seasons, culminating in a 12-1 record in his final season, ultimately leading to his appointment as head coach of the Gators.

In his time at Florida, he hasn't been able to replicate that success, having gone 11-15 in his three seasons so far. They also failed to reach a bowl game last season. It will be tough for Napier and Florida, as they still have seven preseason-ranked teams left on their schedule, including five straight to end their season.

So, Napier had better figure it out, or it could be his final season in Gainesville.
