Jets' Undrafted Rookie Named Standout Heading into Week 1

With the New York Jets days away from their first game of the 2024 regular-season, and linebacker Haason Reddick still a no-show at the team facility, the Jets will likely be taking the field against the San Francisco 49ers without him. However, despite not having the former All-Pro, they could have a future star in the making already on their roster.

In a recent piece released by Pro Football Focus , rookie edge rusher Braiden McGregor was listed as one of the top undrafted rookie performers coming out of the preseason. In just 53 pass-rushing snaps, McGregor totaled eight pressures and three sacks. He also had a pass-rush win rate of 20.8 percent, which would have ranked eighth among all edge rushers last season in the NFL.

While McGregor is unlikely to start, and might not even play for any substantial snaps against the 49ers, the fact that the team kept him on the active roster after he went undrafted proves that they certainly see potential in him. As the season continues and McGregor continues to get more experience with the team in practice, he could certainly end up playing some meaningful snaps throughout a long, grueling NFL season.

McGregor spent his college career at the University of Michigan, where he won the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Whether McGregor is active or not, the Jets will open up their regular-season in San Francisco on Monday.
