SEC Powerhouse Loses Starter to Injury

No. 6 Ole Miss will be without starting offensive lineman Jeremy James for "multiple weeks" due to a hand injury suffered in the win against Furman on Saturday, according to a report from 247Sports' Tyler Komis .

James (6-foot-6, 335 pounds) has been an anchor on the Rebels' offensive front for the last four seasons. A former Freshman All-American, James logged his 50th consecutive start on Saturday.

According to the report, James''injury isn't believed to be season-ending, which is good news for Ole Miss as it prepares to take on the SEC slate. The Rebels have some leeway this week as they welcome Middle Tennessee and former SEC head coach Derek Mason to Oxford on Saturday.

All things considered, Ole Miss can manage the loss of James if he can get healthy ahead of the conference schedule. The Rebels will take on Wake Forest (Sept. 14) and Georgia Southern (Sept. 21) before taking on Kentucky on Sept. 28 for the SEC opener.

The meat of the schedule comes during the latter part of the season with No. 18 LSU (Oct. 12), No. 15 Oklahoma (Oct 26) and No. 1 Georgia (Nov. 9).

Kickoff against Middle Tennessee is set for 4:15 p.m. ET (SEC Network).
