U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles recently made her much-anticipated social media comeback following a lengthy and emotional hiatus. The 23-year-old announced her decision to go off the grid amid her bronze medal controversy from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Chiles, who was initially awarded the bronze medal from the floor exercise final after a successful judges appeal on her final score, was subsequently stripped of the medal after it was determined that the said appeal came four seconds outside the allotted time period.

From 13.766, Chiles' score was knocked back down to 13.666 after the 0.100-point penalty was reapplied. This made her fall to fifth behind Romanians Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea, both of whom finished with a score of 13.700. It was Barbosu, however, who was awarded the bronze medal due to a score tie-breaker against her compatriot (higher execution score).

Based on a recent statement, staying off social media throughout this entire controversy had to be tough for Chiles. The decorated American gymnast admitted that TikTok, in particular, has been important for her in terms of relishing her best memories from the Olympics.

“I do look back at a lot of them and go, ‘Oh wow, we were actually in Paris and we did that,’" Chiles told Beth Sobol of allure . "We did all these amazing things as athletes, but also as friends as well. It’s cool to be scrolling and remember what time it was and where it was and what we were doing. The fan ones are pretty cool, too.”

Even during her stint in Paris, Chiles revealed that she and her U.S. Gymnastics teammates enjoyed following the various trends on TikTok. The "sad to say I didn't make the Olympics" trend, in particular, wherein users upload their funniest sport-related fails, helped Chiles and Co. get through the challenges of competing in the most prestigious and intense sports event on the planet.

“Those brought us so much joy and really lightened things up while we were there,” she said of the TikTok videos.

Jordan appears to be in a much better place right now than she was at the onset of her controversy. However, it's also true that being stripped of a bronze medal -- one that she feels she earned fairly -- is not something you get over easily.

At this point, Chiles is just doing everything she can to move past this nightmare.
