LSU Coach Brian Kelly Called Out for Explanation of Player's Viral Video

LSU coach Brian Kelly is taking some heat after a wildly inaccurate description of Kyren Lacy's now-viral touchdown celebration that drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Lacy caught a 19-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to open the scoring for LSU against USC. After scoring, Lacy pretended to shoot a gun at the Trojans defense, drawing a flag.

“It was a matter of frustration,” Kelly said on The Paul Finebaum Show . “I’m frustrated and angry that we’re not getting the kinds of things happening for our guys. Our guys are working so hard. I’ll give you an example, Kyren Lacy. He gets a personal foul penalty. He pointed his finger at a friend of his, and Kyren’s been working on emotional control. He talks about it all the time. So, it’s not something that he doesn’t work on and yet it goes against him."

As many USC fans pointed out, it was a little more than pointing a finger.

"Brian Kelly unserious lmaooooo pointed his finger at his friend? Ok dude," one fan wrote .

Another chimed in: "Nice try Brian, what the kid did has no place in the game of football during a game."

The penalty helped USC out on the ensuing kickoff, with the Trojans starting their next drive at the Tigers' 43-yard line. USC got a field goal on the drive. Overall, LSU was flagged for 10 times for 99 yards in the matchup.

"Disingenuous to the fullest right there, pointed his finger," a fan said in response to Kelly's most recent comments. No wonder this guy can’t win big games, zero accountability in his program."

LSU and Kelly have a good opportunity to turn things around this week against Nicholls State.
