Mavs Star Klay Thompson's Father Takes Bold Caitlin Clark Stance

Although the Caitlin Clark discourse reached a toxic level in many instances, Mychal Thompson brought an extremely positive spin to the conversation instead. However, perhaps he went a little far. The two-time NBA champion shared his glowing review of Indiana Fever's rookie star's season on social media.

Mychal, the father of Dallas Mavericks wing Klay Thompson, could ask his son for a proofread before pressing send.

"Lemmy see if I got this strait…" Thompson began . "Best Gard in the WNBA…Leeds leeg in points scored/assisted…Has taken the WORST team in the leeg to solid PLAYOFF contender…Leeds leeg in assists…and then there's this…Game attendance avrage WITH Caitlin? 15,000…NO Caitlin? 8,000. Thats MVP 2 ME."

The WNBA's Rookie of the Year award race has taken a controversial turn. Clark leads in most statistics from a rookie standpoint but also leads the league in assists. However, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese's rebound numbers and records set, influenced some media members and former players to look at "Chi Barbie" as a formidable Rookie of the Year candidate.

Some former players, such as Lisa Leslie, suggested Clark and Reese share the award.

To his credit, Thompson understands the WNBA's financial boom derived from Clark's presence in an otherwise money-losing venture. Moreover, the Fever started as one of the worst teams in the WNBA and has since played into a postseason picture.

Such facts make for a compelling argument for MVP, but perhaps that's a take too hot for TV and social media. A'Ja Wilson, the Los Vegas Aces star, is likely the 2024 WNBA MVP, as FanDuel has the gold medalist as a lock, given the -4000 favorite betting odds.
