Eastern Kentucky football just reached a whole new level of pettiness.

This weekend, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels football team makes the trip to Western Kentucky as the two in-state rivals meet for the first time since 2017. Despite the break in head-to-head matchups, there's plenty of animosity between the two sides heading into the 2024 game.

Western Kentucky was planning to hold a white-out this weekend, with fans packing the stadium wearing white attire, while the Hilltopper team would wear white jerseys, which are typically reserved for the away team.

In a normal white-out, the visiting team usually agrees to wear their colored home jerseys. However, Eastern Kentucky went on the offensive and insisted they'd like to wear their white jerseys, thus forcing WKU to wear their home reds.

"We announced our football game themes and promotions for the 2024 season on July 10 with Saturday's home opener theme a 'White Out,'" WKU Football's X account posted Wednesday.

"However, EKU informed us on Tuesday of this week that they would be exercising their right as the visiting team to wear white uniforms, thus forcing us to wear red jerseys on Saturday," it added.

So, no white jerseys for the home team.

"Per NCAA rules, both teams must agree to a uniform switch," the post said. "We were hoping EKU would agree to allow us to wear white on Saturday, as many other opponents have in past years. We still encourage fans to show up, be loud and wear white."

Well, that's a pretty salty move by the visiting rival to ruin their opponent's white out by forcing them to wear red uniforms. In fact, Eastern Kentucky even rubbed it in with a post of their own on social media.

You could say it's a bold move, perhaps even commendable in its competitive nature. But if Eastern Kentucky were to lose, the Colonels shouldn't expect one ounce of mercy from Western — and they're already 4.5-point underdogs, per Vegas Insider .

The Battle of the Bluegrass just got a whole lot more interesting.

So so much for schools teaching good sportsmanship… if it was up to me, I would eliminate EKU from the rest of the season
