When the Oregon Ducks host an FCS opponent early in the season, fans are almost conditioned to expect a blowout. However, when the FCS Idaho Vandals came to town to open the 2024 season in Eugene, they delivered a battle few experts could predict. The Ducks eventually separated themselves late in the game to escape with a 24-14 victory, but not before letting the Vandals keep it within one score late into the fourth quarter.

The poor offensive performance stood out on Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt’s radar, after predicting the Ducks to make the Big Ten Championship Game before the season started . After watching their close contest against the Vandals, Klatt says he has major concerns about the Ducks, especially their offensive line.

“The answer to me about ‘should we be concerned about Oregon?’ is yes,” Klatt said on Wednesday’s episode of “ The Joel Klatt Show ”. “I actually have major concerns.”

Klatt pointed out that the 2024 Ducks' offensive line allowed three sacks to Idaho, which is more than half the amount they allowed for all of 2023.

“Alarm bells should be going off heavily around Oregon, and their offensive line specifically,” he said. “Oregon was a 49.5-point favorite and won by ten and averaged under three yards per carry against FCS Idaho who sacked them three times when last year they gave up five total sacks on the season. That is alarming.”

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel still dazzled completing 41-of-49 pass attempts for 380 yards and two touchdowns, but Klatt says this type of game is not sustainable if the offensive line can’t improve. They won’t have much time to figure it out either as they host the Boise State Broncos in Week 2, a team they’ve never beaten in three total matchups.

Kickoff is set for Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Joe fails to acknowledge that the Vandals defense came to play. They may have stopped the ground game but couldn't stop the passing game. Lanning will find a way to run it.. because that's what they do.
