Ex-Florida Gators Head Coach Urban Meyer is a three-time national championship winner whose opinion carries a significant amount of credibility in the world of college football.

Meyer's 17 seasons as a head coach at the college level concluded with a final mark of 187-32, making him the coach with the third-highest winning percentage in college football history.

Meyer made his pick for college football's 'Recruit Of The Year' following Week 1's action and his pick is a quarterback who tormented his former team, the Gators, at The Swamp in Gainesville, Fla. this past Saturday.

"I'll tell you what, Cam Ward, that is to me recruit of the year," Meyer said. "I think he instantly transformed. I think he's that good. I went back and watched it, he's that good.

"I saw him coming out of I think Washington State last year and he was the number one transfer quarterback coming out, and teams were all over him. Mario Cristobal (head coach of the Miami Hurricanes) got the recruit of the year with Cam Ward."

The Hurricanes stomped Coach Billy Napier's Gators 41-17 on Saturday as Ward completed 26-35 passes for 385 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

Florida's counterpart, ex-Wisconsin prized recruit Graham Mertz, completed 11-20 passes for 91 yards with an interception.

Ward and the Hurricanes will take on the Florida A&M Rattlers this Saturday at 6 p.m. ET in Miami.
