Dumb 'Debate': Giants' Legend Eli Manning Headed For Hall of Fame?

    By Richie Whitt,

    2024-09-04

To some, Eli Manning is a "lucky" quarterback who won two Super Bowls because of a one-in-a-million catch by David Tyree and a circus grab by Mario Manningham. To others, the New York Giants' quarterback is a slam-dunk, first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Eli is eligible for Canton in 2025. Let the dumb debate(s) begin.

In an article previewing and predicting the Class of 2025 candidates, NFL.com scoffs at the idea that Manning shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

"His regular-season production looks mild compared with some of his contemporaries at the position," says writer Adam Rank. "But he’s one of six players in NFL history to be named Super Bowl MVP twice — three of those players are in the Hall of Fame (Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Bart Starr), one is not yet eligible (Tom Brady) and one is still playing (Patrick Mahomes). I mean, Manning earned those honors against the league’s greatest dynasty. There is no debate here."

The fact that Eli beat Brady in the Super Bowl - twice - should be enough for roll out the red carpet for him. He also finished in the NFL's Top 10 in both passing yards (57,023) and touchdowns (366) while winning 117 games.

Manning didn't always dazzle against mediocre opponents in September, but his brilliant performances against the NFL's best in the biggest games should ensure his enshrinement.
