Patrick Mahomes made history in the NFL season opener, then got some love from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes went into Thursday's game against the Baltimore Ravens just 83 yards behind Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson for the franchise record in most passing yards. Mahomes broke the mark early, going into halftime 9-of-14 for 117 yards.

Mahomes, who is entering his eighth season in the NFL, now has 28,541 total passing yards. Dawson played the final 13 seasons of his 19-year NFL career with the Chiefs, throwing for 28,507 yards.

After Mahomes broke the record, the Chiefs took to social media to acknowledge the accomplishment and send a message to the two-time league MVP.

"No one left to pass but himself," the team wrote in a post on X . "Congratulations on the MOST passing yards in franchise history, [Patrick Mahomes]."

With his record-setting performance against the Ravens, Mahomes became the only active quarterback holding his team's franchise record for most passing yards.
