Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is confident that rookie offensive tackle Joe Alt will hold his own against defensive end Maxx Crosby.

Roman believes Alt's mindset and approach to the game will serve him well as he faces tough competition.

"Yeah, I mean, I don't think he's going to blink at anything," Roman told reporters on Thursday. "There's going to be things that come up for everybody. Football is an imperfect game, and you try to be perfect but there are going to be things that come up, and you got to be able to fix them and move on and adjust.

"I don't think he's going to be too wide-eyed at anything. You know, he's the kind of guy that if something happens, he'll come back and talk through it, reason it out, and figure out a solution. And those are the guys that generally continue to ascend."

The Chargers selected Alt with their first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, highlighting their commitment to strengthening their offensive line.

Despite being a rookie, Alt has shown promise, playing 55 snaps in two preseason games and achieving a high pass-blocking efficiency rating.

In his standout performance against the Los Angeles Rams, Alt recorded an impressive pass-blocking grade and did not allow any pressures during his snaps.

This performance positioned him as one of the top first-round picks from Week 2 of the preseason.

At just 21 years old, Alt is expected to be a key player for the Chargers. Standing at 6-foot-8, he brings size and strength to the run game, which is crucial for a team that struggled with run-blocking last season.

The Chargers are looking to revamp their offensive line, and Alt is a significant part of that plan.

Playing alongside fellow first-round pick Rashawn Slater, Alt has the potential to form a formidable tackle duo.

Both players have already demonstrated their ability to perform well together, which bodes well for the Chargers as they aim to improve their offensive performance this season.
