Chiefs' Andy Reid Was 'Waiting' For Ravens Touchdown to get Overturned

So close, yet so far for the Baltimore Ravens facing the defending champs Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

The Chiefs managed to secure a win in Week 1. They thwarted a fourth-quarter rally by Baltimore, clinching a 27-20 victory during the banner-raising celebration.

Baltimore was mere inches from a last-second touchdown from Isaiah Likely that might have led to overtime or a two-point conversion for the win. Kansas City is aware of how narrowly they avoided a different result, especially Andy Reid.

The Chiefs head coach addressed the media after the game, offering his insights on the nail-biting final play.

“It was a fight down to the end,” Reid said recapping the game, per ESPN , but clearly referencing the last play. “When they say it's a game of inches, [it] might be shorter than that.”

Regarding the last-second play, Reid mentioned he couldn't clearly see if Likely was within bounds.

“The guys upstairs saw it, and so they knew he was out,” Reid said. “We were just waiting after that.”

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared somewhat more anxious than Coach Reid.

“Definitely nerve-wracking because it looked good from my angle on the sideline,” Mahomes said, “but then the first view you could see his cleat. … You have to wear white cleats next time. That's my advice for him.”

The NFL couldn't have hoped for a more exciting opener for the 2024 season.

The Chiefs aim to extend their winning streak into Week 2 as they host the Cincinnati Bengals to Arrowhead Stadium.
