Troy Aikman Admits 'Sacking' Cowboys Cheerleader(s)?

Early in his career with the Dallas Cowboys, Troy Aikman was relentlessly sacked. But in a revealing interview this week, the Hall-of-Fame quarterback admitted he might have done his share of "sacking" also.

Aikman, who infamously was sacked 11 times in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles in 1991, said on The Dan Patrick Show that he got romantically involved with a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and got her fired from the squad.

Patrick asked Aikman if being single and quarterback of the Cowboys in the late 1980s/early 1990s was "dangerous" out and about in Dallas and Valley Ranch.

"I wouldn't say dangerous," Aikman said . "I think my, my biggest problem was, it wasn't a Cowboys rule, it was their rule, you couldn't date the cheerleaders."

In the 1990s, the three-time Super Bowl champ was linked romantically to the likes of actress Janine Moore and country music star Lorrie Morgan. Apparently every now and then he mixed in a cheerleader as well.

"But, I still did ... some," Aikman admitted. "And it didn't fare well for those cheerleaders when people found out."

Surely, Patrick countered, the quarterback of the Cowboys could go to bat and save the job of a cheerleader.

"No, I couldn't," Aikman said. "They're a totally separate entity."

Aikman, 56, has made headlines in recent months for his relationship with his 34-year-old Haley Clark.

Aikman, who retired in 2000, continues his historic pairing with Joe Buck this season when the two call Monday's New York Jets-San Francisco 49ers game on ESPN. The duo begins their 23rd season, topping Pat Summerall-John Madden's 21.
