It’s week two of college football and we’ve got another full slate of action to tempt you with. Unfortunately for the enthusiast who will be sitting in front of the TV all weekend, the majority of the captivating games are taking place early in the schedule. Fortunately for the Kansas fans, the Jayhawks/Illini game is one of the most intriguing in that time slot. As always, here are a few recommendations for your viewing pleasure.

BYU at SMU, Friday 6:00PM ESPN2

The weekend again gets off to an early start and this game is the cream of the crop for Friday night football. SMU is now in the ACC and has started off the season a perfect 2-0 with wins over Nevada and Houston Christian. Hosting BYU is big step in a season of big steps. This could be one of the best games of the early season with SMU an early ten point favorite but BYU's seventh year quarterback Jake Retzlaff is back and ready to make a point. This is fine way to start your weekend.

    3 Texas at 10 Michigan, 11:00AM FOX

This is a game that needs no hype. If you're a college football fan and not a fan of the Big XII schools that follow in this article, this is the game you’re watching. Plus, it would be sweet to watch former Big XII member Texas get absolutely destroyed at the Big House, wouldn’t it?

Arkansas at 16 Oklahoma State, 11:00AM ABC

You really can’t tell much from season opening blowouts so the fact that Arkansas absolutely blasted Arkansas Pine Bluff 70-0 in game one doesn’t mean a whole lot, especially with the prospect of heading to Boone Pickens and taking on Oklahoma State this week looming, a complete 180 of a challenge. On the other side, Alan Bowman and Ollie Gordon did whatever they wanted for the Cowboys to open the season, but an SEC opponent like the Razorbacks will test them and prepare them for what many believe could be a run to the Big XII title.

17 Kansas State at Tulane, 11:00AM ESPN

In the preseason, I saw this game highlighted as one that K-State would want to pay extra attention to and the entire premise was a “what about?” piece concerning seeding and placement in the College Football Playoff. The idea was that if K-State doesn’t get an auto-bid by winning the conference and has to get in based on the merit of their schedule, a win against a team that could be sneaky good (Tulane) would play a key role. A loss would look bad to the committee with so many other teams vying for an at-large spot. I guess we’ll see if this game holds that kind of significance or not. K-State is an early ten point favorite so I’m going to go ahead and say that the aforementioned article might have been overstating things a bit. Should be fun either way.

Iowa State at 21 Iowa, 2:30PM CBS

Bored? You’re likely to stay that way if you subject yourself to this one but it is the most compelling matchup in the coveted 2:30 slot. Iowa was dismal offensively last season although they put up 40 points in week one against Illinois State and Iowa State only managed three touchdowns in their opening win against North Dakota. Book makers have this as a two point spread so I guess what I’m saying is that I’d love to see a 5-3 final.

Texas Tech at Washington State, 9:00PM FOX

The west coast after dark. Football only the diehards are awake to see. Remember that Texas Tech went to Wyoming last year and lost but also almost snuck one past Oregon, granted that game was in Lubbock. If you’re up late, might as well see if anything strange happens in this one.
