College Football Team Draws Embarrassing Crowd for Friday Night Game

Home games are huge, especially for college football teams.

It is a great opportunity for teams to show out in front of their home crowd, showcasing their talents against the opponent on their home schedule. It is also a great experience for fans wishing to express their passion and excitement for their favorite team.

Unfortunately, things don't always go according to plan, even if the team in question is playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs, simply abbreviated as SMU, is playing their inaugural season as a member of the ACC. They were previously in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), playing there for 10 seasons before making the big move after the 2023 campaign.

SMU is off to a solid start to the 2024 season, winning their first two games after beating Nevada 29-24 and FCS opponent Houston Christian 59-7.

On Friday night, the Mustangs prepared for their third game against the Brigham Young University Cougars, better known as BYU. For a game that was being broadcast on ESPN2, it would be expected for solid turnout from the fans.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for a stadium that can house up to 32,000 people. According to this X (formerly Twitter) user, the stands are barely filled , making it apparent for viewers watching from home to see the attendance be as underwhelming as it was being there in person.

Despite the fan turnout leaving a lot to be desired, SMU leads BYU 12-7 midway through the third quarter.
