Nick Saban Puts Florida Coach Billy Napier on Notice With Brutal Assessment

Nick Saban had a harsh assessment of the Florida program and what head coach Billy Napier needs to do to turn things around.

Napier is just 11-15 at the helm of the Gators. Florida dropped its opener 41-17 against Miami, and Saban thinks some changes are needed.

"I think he's got to change the culture. I mean, the culture there is not what it needs to be in terms of the intangible things you play with," Saban said on College GameDay on Saturday . "The toughness, the discipline to control the line of scrimmage. They're not just doing those types of things. I know he took over a tough situation, but hopefully you can establish that culture in Year 3."

Florida is taking on Samford on Saturday with a chance to get their season on track. It will mark the debut of highly-touted freshman DJ Lagway. He is filling in for Graham Mertz, who is in concussion protocol. Lagway could be part of the solution.

“The one thing that I look at with all these teams, the first thing I look at is what kind of quarterback they have, can you win with the guy and what kind of skill players do they have to make explosive plays," Saban said. "Other than turnovers, explosive plays equal outcome of games better than anything else. I don’t see that at Florida.”

Florida is a 37-point favorite for their matchup with Samford.
