C.J. Mosley, Jets Linebackers in Bind vs. 49ers

C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams are considered the top linebacker duo in the NFL for the New York Jets. Both players have been named All-Pro and Pro Bowl talents over the years.

While Williams is still in his prime, though, Mosley is 32 years old and knows he's not the same player he once was. The former Ravens' effectiveness is going to be called into question, especially if he struggles in the Jets' Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

It's precisely the Week 1 matchup, though, that can cause so many problems for Mosley and the Jets linebacking room.

With Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle, the 49ers possess one of the best running backs and tight ends in football to this point. Both players can get to the edge and attack the middle of the field which makes even great linebackers around the league struggle.

Their play will be a key demarcation point to determine how elite Mosley still is at the position, or if his late-season struggles were just a fluke of sorts in 2023.

Father time waits for no player in the NFL and Mosley's time could be soon, especially if the 49ers can get him out in space and cover receivers.
