Level Up! Evans Ready For More With Baker

    By Adam Schultz,

    2024-09-07

Not much is expected from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024, from outside at least, but receiver Mike Evans is looking forward to one thing - his chemistry building with Baker Mayfield.

With Evans enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2023 (1,255 yards, 13 touchdowns), now that he has another full offseason of work with Mayfield which has seen the pair develop an even stronger wavelength, more is expected.

But what has been the catalyst for the pair's relationship blossoming on the field?

“It's happened with more reps,” Evans said . “Last year was our first year together, this year I expect us to take it to that next level. I'm the X receiver, so it's a little easier for me because I'm going to be singled up a lot, and so he can just know like how they're playing me and I'll know the coverage as well and there things that we worked on in practice. So it's just timing and just being together for a little while now.”

If the Buccaneers are to amount to anything substantial in 2024, we imagine that Mayfield and Evans are going to have a lot to do with it.

Of course, much of the doubt surrounding the Buccaneers this year is Mayfield and whether last season's Pro Bowl year was a flash in the pan.

But he has a new offensive coordinator who is giving him more responsibility and two genuine weapons in Evans and Chris Godwin to help push the ball down the field.

Many have the Atlanta Falcons winning the division at a canter, but with Mayfield and Evans looking like a dangerous duo, don't discount the Buccaneers as a playoff team in 2024.
