WNBA rookie Angel Reese announced that she will be out for the remainder of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury.

Reese's historic rookie year gets cut short after playing 34 games for the Chicago Sky, all of which were starts for the first-year star.

As she heads to the sideline, Reese's final rookie stat line includes an average of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.

She led the league in rebounds per game for much of the season and even secured the most rebounds in a single season by any player in WNBA history. Reese tallied 446 boards in her rookie year.

Following the news that Reese will no longer be available for the Sky, WNBA fans shared their initial thoughts.

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky have six games left in the 2024 season. They currently hold a 12-22 record, listed as the No. 8 team in the WNBA standings.

Before Reese announced that she would be sidelined for the rest of her rookie season, the Sky were attempting to ride the 6-foot-3 forward into the playoffs.

Despite her talent, however, Chicago has lost eight of its last 10 games. Their playoff spot is in jeopardy since the Atlanta Dream also holds a 12-22 record as the No. 9 seed.

Reese's original injury designation was a day-to-day protocol. She was heading into the Sky's matchup against the Dallas Wings on Sunday with a "questionable" tag.

The 22-year-old will now have to wait for the 2025 WNBA season to continue her legacy at the professional level.
