Former Timberwolves first-rounder Shabazz Muhammad to play in Filipino league

Former Minnesota Timberwolves player Shabazz Muhammad has signed with the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Muhammad will continue his playing career for the 2024-25 season as he takes Glenn Robinson III's — another former Wolves player — place on the roster. Robinson was placed on the team's import injured reserve list.

Muhammad was picked as the No. 14 overall pick by the Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA Draft. Wolves fans most likely don't want to be reminded who went after Muhammad in that draft, as Giannis Antetokounmpo was selected right after Muhammad by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Dennis Schroder was also picked a few picks after that by the Atlanta Hawks.

During his five-year career with the Timberwolves, Muhammad averaged 9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He played 267 games for Minnesota and averaged 17.4 minutes per game.

He later played 11 games for the Bucks during the 2017-18 season and hasn't been in the NBA since.

"Baz" has since played for teams in China, the G-League, Philippines, Lebanon, Bahrain and Venezuela.
