College Football Fans Roast Deion Sanders Over Controversial Sunday Decision

The Colorado Buffaloes (1-1) lost their first game of the 2024 college football season on Saturday, Sept. 7, in a 28-10 defeat at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0). Some of the challenges from Deion Sanders' debut coaching year resurfaced during Saturday night’s game in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Buffaloes couldn't protect quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion's 21-year-old son, giving up six sacks on the night. Shedeur threw an interception that resulted in a Nebraska defensive touchdown late in the first quarter, extending the Cornhuskers' lead to 14-0. It took almost three full quarters later for Shedeur and the Colorado offense to finally find the end-zone, as Shedeur found WR LaJohntay Wester for a five-yard score with 8:45 left in the fourth quarter. At that point, however, the game was largely out of reach for Deion and Co.

Both Shedeur and Deion Sanders' decisions following the game have attracted attention and discussion. Shedeur left the field at the two-minute timeout after he was removed from the game for safety reasons. He then, during his postgame press conference, criticized Colorado's offensive line for its failure to protect him in the pocket.

Deion himself is now facing criticism for a questionable decision he made on Sunday, less than 24 hours after Colorado's tough loss. The 57-year-old head coach in his second year posted four photos of himself from the game on social media at 10:45 am ET on Sunday, Sept. 8. Take a look:

Players often post phots of themself the day after a game, which is typically when a team's media crew is able to send gameday photos out. But it's rare to see a college football head coach post photos of himself, especially after a loss.

Some college football fans have expressed surprise and criticism over Deion's social media post on Sunday, following the loss.

"Just all about 'me, me, me.' Nothing more. Dude is in over his head."

"First time a coach has posted pics of himself after a big loss? This is insane."

"Of course the first thing Prime tweets after that embarrassing Buffs performance yesterday is pictures of himself."

"Imagine losing to one of your rivals and then posting pictures of… yourself. Colorado, I don’t like you but you deserve more than this."

"Posting these after getting blown out is certainly one move for a head coach to make. Love prime down, but I question certain things about him as a coach right now. Can’t put all this on the players, he needs some accountability too."

Deion and the Colorado Buffaloes will look to bounce back as they prepare for a rivalry game against Colorado State next Saturday, Sept. 14.
