Davis Warren started Michigan football's top ten showdown vs. the Texas Longhorns in Ann Arbor on Saturday, a game that concluded with a disastrous result for Wolverines fans.

Texas won 31-12 in a game that wasn't as close as the final score indicated. While Michigan stuck close to the Longhorns for much of the first half, the Wolverines' constant miscues made them look more like a Brady Hoke or Rich Rodriguez team than a Jim Harbaugh team under new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Following the game, reporter Trevor McCue of Maize & Blue Review shared an encouraging statistic on Warren's play vs. the Longhorns.

"Davis Warren had a perfect QB rating on throws over 20 yards vs. Texas," McCue wrote . "4/5 for 99 yards with a touchdown."

The post was viewed over 71,000 times as of Sunday afternoon, but some Michigan fans took issue with it.

On one play, Michigan receiver Tyler Morris, a hero of last year's Rose Bowl, appeared to be running down the left sideline wide open. Warren instead threw to Semaj Morgan, who was open on a shorter pass play. Warren sailed the ball over his head.

One Michigan fan posted a clip of the missed throw to Morgan with the words "Me when I lie" included.

Another Michigan State University fan seemed on board with talking up Warren, the former walk-on who has served as Michigan's starting QB this year.

"QB1," they wrote. "Start him the rest of the year please."

Warren threw an interception in Michigan's 30-10 Week One win over Fresno State during which a deep ball sailed on him and was snagged by a Bulldogs defender.

The former walk-on has thrown for 322 yards in two games but has an abysmal QB rating of 39.9, 89th among college quarterbacks.

Many fans did not seem impressed by Warren's play vs. Texas, which culminated in a stat line of 15-25 completions for 204 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

"Haha. Dude was playing sand lot football," one reader said. "Three of those were up for grabs."

Another fan pointed out that Warren led the Wolverines to just six points in the game's first 58 minutes.

Warren has been a steady hand for Michigan in practice and spring game performances, but fans are beginning to wonder whether or not he is starting QB material for a team that won the national title last season and just had a nation's best 16-game winning streak snapped.

"Stop looking for positive things about him it's not there," another reader added.
