The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating one of its officers who executed a traffic stop of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill for an alleged driving violation ahead of the team's season opener on Sunday, September 8, and eventually placed both Hill and teammate Calais Campbell in handcuffs.

The team issued a statement on Sunday saying that police pulled Hill over approximately one block shy of Hard Rock Stadium before the wideout was "briefly detained by police."

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Hill's response to the officer's behavior, which he offered during a postgame interview with media members.

"#Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill tells reporters he has 'no idea' why he ended up in handcuffs this morning," Pelissero posted to X . "Informed one of the officers involved has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, Hill says: 'That should tell you everything you need to know.'"

The Dolphins also noted in their statement that "several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support."

Campbell, a defensive lineman and new addition to the roster this year, was among them. He shared his thoughts on the incident during an on-field interview with NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe following Miami's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars .

"For him to put handcuffs on me, I felt some type of way," Campbell said . "But that just goes to show how resilient we are. We didn't let that stop us."

The Dolphins regrouped following the incident and went on to defeat the Jaguars by a score of 20-17 to move to 1-0 on the season.

Hill finished the day with 7 catches for 130 yards and a TD . Meanwhile, Campbell posted 3 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, and recorded a sack in his Dolphins debut.
