Cavan Biggio has been traded again, marking his fourth team this season. The infielder, who previously played for the Los Angeles Dodgers , was moved from the San Francisco Giants to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations.

Biggio was on a minor league contract, allowing for this trade to happen without waivers after the July 30 deadline.

However, since he joined the Giants after September 1, he is not eligible for the Braves' postseason roster unless they petition for an exception, which they have not indicated they plan to do.

The Braves have been dealing with a series of injuries this season, prompting them to bring in players like Ramon Laureano, John Brebbia, Whit Merrifield, and Gio Urshela.

Biggio is now stepping in as a potential replacement for Merrifield, who recently fractured his left foot after a foul ball incident.

While the team hopes Merrifield can return soon, they have been relying on less experienced players at second base during this time.

Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2016 and made his major league debut in 2019.

He started strong, hitting .234 with a .364 on-base percentage in his rookie year, finishing fifth in Rookie of the Year voting.

However, he has struggled to maintain that level of performance, leading to his designation for assignment by Toronto in June.

After a brief stint with the Dodgers, where he batted .192/.306/.329 in 88 plate appearances over 30 games before being released in August. Biggio signed a minor league deal with the Giants but only played 12 games at their Triple-A affiliate before this latest trade.

Now with the Braves, he faces the challenge of being added to their 40-man roster, which is currently full, before he can play.
