Chicago Sky GM Reveals Severity of Angel Reese's Season-Ending Injury

Fans are in disbelief over Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese's WNBA season coming an abrupt end. Reese was in the midst of a fantastic rookie campaign, making league history with a record 26 double-doubles before the LSU alum announced her season was over on September 7.

Between Reese not immediately sharing details of the injury and no catastrophic on-court moment leading up to her announcement, conspiracy theories emerged that maybe the 22-year-old wasn't actually injured. Fans guessed that maybe Chicago was trying to tank the remainder of the season for a better draft pick or that Reese was giving up after Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark appeared to have the WNBA's Rookie of the Year Award in the bag.

However, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca shared a statement on September 8 that shut these rumors down. He confirmed when Reese hurt her wrist and the severity of the injury.

The Chicago Sun-Times' Annie Costabile posted , "According to Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca Angel Reese sustained a left wrist fracture against the [Los Angeles] Sparks [on] Friday. As previously shared by Reese and the Sky, she is out the rest of the season."

A wrist fracture "is a common injury that can affect any of the 10 bones that make up your forearm and wrist," according to the Cleveland Clinic . "The radius is most often affected. Falls on an outstretched hand are the most common cause of a broken wrist."

During the Sky's 92-78 win over the Sparks on September 6, Reese took a few falls to the ground after colliding with opponents. While she was seen testing out her wrist during the matchup, Reese finished out the game without public complaint.

Reese's exact recovery time remains unknown, however, the rookie revealed in her announcement that she'll be ready to go when the Unrivaled league starts in January.
