Giants React to Fans' Unhappiness After Week 1 Loss

The New York Giants brought out all the stops for Sunday’s season opener at home against the Minnesota Vikings. Century Red uniforms, a special logo at midfield, legends at halftime.

New York intended to give its fans a show, complementing a winnable game against backup quarterback Sam Darnold with festivities and a tribute to the franchise’s iconic history.

Instead, the Giants lost 28-6 , failing to find the end zone and putting forth a disgraceful Week 1 performance.

Unsurprisingly, the fans voiced their displeasure, booing their favorite team before leaving the stadium early.

Much of the blame fell on quarterback Daniel Jones. He completed just 22 of 42 attempts for 186 yards. He was sacked five times and threw two interceptions – one of them being returned for six.

“I think it's our job to give them something to cheer about and to play well, to execute,” Jones said . “We take that seriously. They expect us to play well, we expect to play well. We've got to do that.”

Jermaine Eluemunor would join him in promising to be better. While the offensive line was far from the worst of New York’s problems, three new starters was supposed to mean more than 3.5 yards per attempt on the ground and that handful of sacks.

“I mean, shoot. I don’t blame them,” Eluemunor said. “We need to be better, and we will be better. It’s New York City, they want to win.”

The defense did its best to match the offense’s futility, repeatedly getting gashed by Darnold, allowing running back Aaron Jones to approach the century mark, and forcing just one sack.

That one sack belonged to defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. He played well in the loss, but didn’t share the sympathy his peers did after the game.

“I don’t respect it, honestly,” Lawrence said. “I get it, they want to see their team win. It’s just a rough patch. It is what it is.”

Needless to say, New York performed worse than it expected to, and the fans told them as such. Salvaging the season has quickly become an urgent matter and starts next Sunday against the Washington Commanders.

Rough patch for 10 years. His attitude explains it all. They don't care. Why should Fans. Boycott. Leave Stadium empty. Then see what he has to say

We’re heading in the wrong direction if this continues. BD or DJ are in hot water if this doesn’t turn around quickly.
