Greg McElroy Warns College Football To Be 'Super Careful' Of One Unranked Program

Week 2 of the college football season has come to an end with a few noteworthy upsets. The biggest one was Notre Dame falling to Northern Illinois in South Bend in a stunning collapse by the Irish.

As the weeks go on, we will get a clearer picture of which programs are legitimate contenders for their respective conferences.

College football analyst Greg McElroy hosted his ' Always College Football' show on Sunday. In it, he covered a variety of topics ranging from Oregon's narrow win over Boise State to the current state of the SEC.

One interesting sound bite from McElroy was a warning. He warned teams with South Carolina on their schedule to be "super careful."

"How about the performance by South Carolina?" McElroy said. "Anyone that has South Carolina on the schedule be super careful, and that starts with LSU."

McElroy seems really excited about the Gamecocks through two games, primarily because of the performance of their defense.

"South Carolina, if they can stay healthy, they're going to be a huge problem for teams," McElroy said. "Whether or not their offense can manufacture enough points to pull off upsets it to be determined. But I'm telling you, that defense, that defensive line, in particular, they are unbelievably disruptive."

The Gamecocks are 2-0 with a 23-19 win over Old Dominion in Week 1, which certainly raises some questions. However, in Week 2 they dominated Kentucky on the road and won the game 31-6.

South Carolina's defense allowed just 183 total yards with 44 passing yards and a total of five sacks with a pair of turnovers.

As McElroy says, that defense is playing at a high level and has a lot of talent. The next few weeks will be incredibly tough for South Carolina with games against LSU, Akron, Ole Miss, Alabama, and then Oklahoma with a bye in Week 5 and Week 9.

South Carolina is unranked, but a win over LSU could be enough to earn them a spot in the top 25.

All in all, they could be a team to watch out for in the SEC, especially if the defense plays well.

They had a good showing against Kentucky and almost lost to Old Dominion. I'm not impressed. They beat LSU I'll start listening.
