Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had just four words to say when reacting to the news of his contract extension with the Cowboys on Sunday, September 8, a deal that would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

After a negotiation-filled offseason that felt like an eternity for Dallas fans, Prescott and the team agreed on a four-year, $240 million contract extension, including $231 million guaranteed.

Prescott received the news via FaceTime call just hours before their Week 1 opener against the Cleveland Browns at 4:25 p.m. EDT. When asked about the call, he summed it up with a surprisingly short response.

"A little emotional call," Prescott said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

He received the news while sitting next to longtime teammate Ezekiel Elliott and his physical therapist, Luke Miller, at his hotel in Cleveland.

The new contract already seems to be paying off for Dallas.

In their first game after the deal, the Cowboys dominated the Browns 33-17. While Prescott didn’t light up the stat sheet—throwing for only 179 yards and one touchdown—he helped the team build a commanding 20-3 lead by halftime.

Teammate CeeDee Lamb, who also secured a new contract this offseason with a four-year, $136 million deal, had a solid 2024 debut as well, recording five receptions for 61 yards.

Despite the massive contract, Prescott’s four-word reaction shows just how grounded he remains, even with the weight of the NFL's largest contract behind him.
