Michigan State football showcased a strong performance in their 27-24 victory over Maryland, with several players significantly impacting their stock.

    Winners:

    Nick Marsh, WR

Marsh had a standout fourth quarter, transforming the Spartans' offense. He kicked off the final period with a 57-yard catch and followed it up with a 77-yard touchdown, tying the game.

He continued to make crucial plays, contributing to the game-winning field goal with two additional catches. In total, he recorded four of his eight receptions and 151 of his 194 receiving yards in the fourth quarter, proving to be a reliable target throughout the game.

    Aidan Chiles, QB

Chiles rebounded from a lackluster debut against Florida Atlantic, showing marked improvement against Maryland. He connected well with Marsh, delivering precise throws under pressure.

Chiles threw for 363 yards on 24 completions, including two touchdown passes. Despite throwing three interceptions, his ability to move the ball downfield was a positive sign for the Spartans.

    Brian Lindgren, Offensive Coordinator

Lindgren's play-calling set the tone for the game, helping Chiles find a rhythm early on. The offense executed well, starting with a successful opening drive that culminated in a touchdown.

Lindgren effectively utilized all of the top receivers and tight end Jack Velling, creating a diverse attack that kept Maryland's defense on its toes.

    Losers:

    Offensive Line

The offensive line struggled, particularly in the run game, allowing consistent pressure and backfield penetration. The absence of starting right guard Kristian Phillips due to injury was felt, and the unit will need to improve moving forward, especially after finishing with just 130 rushing yards on 30 attempts.

    Secondary

Injuries plagued the Spartans' secondary, with key players sidelined. Both Chance Rucker and Ed Woods left the game with injuries, adding to the existing absences of Dillon Tatum and Khalil Majeed.

The depth will be tested in the upcoming weeks, especially with challenging opponents on the horizon.

    Aziah Johnson, WR/KR

Johnson had a rough outing as a kickoff returner, failing to heed teammates' calls for fair catches and resulting in poor field position.

After two disappointing returns, he was replaced in that role. Although he saw some action on offense, his performance in special teams was a setback.

As the Spartans prepare for their next matchup, the focus will be on building on the positives while addressing the areas that need improvement.
