The Week 2 slate included some surprising outcomes. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were upset by the Northern Illinois Huskies, the Oregon Ducks narrowly escaped an upset against the Boise State Broncos, and the Texas Longhorns blew out the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. It was Michigan's first home loss since 2020 and its first regular-season loss since 2021.

Michigan lost to Texas, 31-12. The Wolverines' offense was limited to 286 yards. Michigan's first six points were because of field goals, and the team scored its only touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Joel Klatt broke down some of the top games from the Week 2 slate on a recent episode of " The Joel Klatt Show ." He expressed some "deep concern" for Michigan after the loss. It was not just that Michigan lost but how it happened. Klatt also moved Michigan's floor from 9-3 to 7-5 after the loss.

"...Michigan is in a rebuilding year, so it would have been massive upset if they were to beat Michigan," Klatt said. "But the way it happened, that's the deep concern. It's the deep concern, and so this floor of 9-3 to me all of a sudden went to seven and five because it doesn't even take a great opponent to beat that Michigan team."

Michigan lost quarterback JJ McCarthy, running back Blake Corum, cornerback Mike Sainristil, linebacker Junior Colson, defensive lineman Jaylin Harrell, and defensive lineman Kris Jenkins to the 2024 NFL draft.

Some returning starters from the 2023 team included players like tight end Colston Loveland, cornerback Will Johnson, safety Rod Moore, and defensive lineman Mason Graham. Michigan returned players like RB Donovan Edwards, offensive tackle Myles Hinton, and linebacker Ernest Hausmann this season.

The Wolverines face the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Week 3. Kickoff is at noon ET on Big Ten Network on Sept. 14.
