There was no doubt that the Philadelphia Eagles needed former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley in their backfield. General manager Howie Roseman made it happen, and Barkley immediately paid dividends in his first game for the Birds.

Barkley carried the rock 24 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns. His pass blocking was exceptional, and he also hauled in two passes for 23 yards and another touchdown.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is excited to have the standout running back in his offensive backfield.

"We are so excited to have him. He made some huge, huge plays throughout this entire game," Sirianni said. "He made it in the pass game. He made plays in the run game. He made some huge plays in critical moments and scored a bunch of touchdowns.

“To have him on our football team means a lot. Howie did a great job of putting this team together. He's a playmaker and he's a great leader and a great person. People feed off his energy and so you could feel all of that, not only in the plays he was making but the energy he had."

Barkley’s presence is going to make this Eagles team that much more formidable. They now have All-Pros all over the offensive side of the ball.

If Philadelphia is able to work out the small kinks in their offense, they could have the best unit in the league.

The Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football on Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
