The AP Top 25 Poll was updated heading into Week 3 of the 2024 college football season. Some of the biggest movers were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who went from fifth to 18th, and the Tennessee Volunteers, who moved from 14th to seventh.

Joel Klatt expressed frustration with the updated AP Top 25 on a recent episode of " The Joel Klatt Show ." Klatt's main problem with the poll was the inconsistency between Tennessee and the USC Trojans among voters.

Klatt believed the Volunteers and Trojans deserved to be in the top 10. Tennessee was ranked seventh, but USC was No. 11 in the updated rankings. Klatt called the AP voters "terrible" before clarifying that he appreciated their work. He still tore into them for the rankings, however.

"...The AP voters are terrible," Klatt said. "They just move them up and down. I'm sorry if you have an AP vote and you're listening to this. I love you. I love your passion for the sport. Give me a break with what you gave us in the AP Poll. That was terrible. Like Tennessee and USC are clearly two of the best 10 teams in the country, and so that's where they should be, and you don't have them there, and I think that's garbage."

The No. 7 ranking is the highest AP ranking Tennessee has received since the 2022 season. The Volunteers were ranked second that season at one point. USC's highest AP ranking in recent memory was also in 2022. The Trojans were ranked fourth during that season.

Both Tennessee and USC had dominant wins in Week 2. The Volunteers beat the NC State Wolfpack 51-10 in Charlotte, and USC handled its business against the Utah State Aggies in a 48-0 shutout.

Tennessee faces the Kent State Golden Flashes next, while USC takes on the Michigan Wolverines in Week 4.
