Lakers Coach JJ Redick Reveals He Wants 'a Bunch of Sickos'

Like in the past, many eyes will be on the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024-25 season, especially since they have an unproven coach in JJ Redick.

The former NBA sharpshooter is carrying a lot of pressure in his maiden stint with the Lakers as he tries to steer a roster filled with established veterans led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

While Redick has no coaching experience, he has surrounded himself with seasoned deputies, led by two familiar names: Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks.

McMillan is a 19-year veteran and is 18th on the all-time wins list. Brooks, meanwhile, led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Finals in 2012 and won as Coach of the Year in the 2009-10 season.

Also part of Redick's staff are Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Lindsey Harding and Beau Levesque .

"I couldn't be happier with the staff that we built here," Redick said in an interview with Spectrum SportsNet . "We got a blend of youth and experience.

"The biggest thing for me was I wanted to make sure I had a bunch of sickos on my staff. I think I've accomplished that. They're grinders."

The 40-year-old former Duke standout added that accountability will be his main thing, stressing that people "can't skip steps."

Redick has said his 15-year NBA career and previous job as a TV analyst have given him ample knowledge to run the Lakers, who suffered a first-round exit in the playoffs last season.
