Alex Morgan shocked fans when she announced on Thursday that she would be retiring from soccer after San Diego Wave FC's match on Sunday night against the North Carolina Courage.

Morgan played 13 minutes in the game, a nod to the number she wore throughout her career, and had a penalty shot saved before she was subbed out of the game and tearfully bid farewell to the crowd.

It's safe to say it was a great night for the women's soccer legend, and it was quite a way to cap her career. The day after her final match, Morgan shared an emotional post on Instagram in which she said goodbye to the game she's been playing for much of her life.

Morgan is regarded as one of the games all-time legends, as she led the United to a pair of World Cup victories, while also winning a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics with Team USA

She finishes her USWNT career with 123 goals and 53 assists, which are the fifth and ninth highest totals in USA history, respectively.

Chances are Morgan won't stray too far away from the game of soccer, but her legendary career has come to an end, and it's safe to say she won't be forgotten about for quite some time.
